Kos Island: Immigration versus Tourism

In Kos island, tourists that come back from nightclubs in the early hours step into immigrants boats arriving from Turkish coast 3,5 miles away.
During the day immigrants stroll around the city waiting for their papers to be processed by the police. They rent bikes, sit around the port and take selfies as they feel they have reached a safe place. The only thing they don’t do is swim as most of them are traumatised from the crossing on the boat during night.

Unhcr issued a report that immigration flow has grown 400% since last year in the islands. They count 31.000 people from the beginning of the year, whereas last year only 3.000 had passed the whole year.
